A Return to Food….

It’s been a while…. I have not blogged into the Universe lately. The current level of negativity, pessimism, meanness and anger is a little bit too much to navigate! So, what do I do? As always, I RETURN TO FOOD!!! I watch baking shows pretty much daily, as my current entertainment and past time. Watching…

About Me

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT FOOD AND NUTRITION HAS INFLUENCED ME EVER SINCE!

Hey everyone! My name is Jackie Cohen. I am a retired Social Worker with a serious food background; living in NYC. At the age of 71 years old, you can imagine that I have eaten many, many meals in my life.

I have been involved with food for several decades. I attended the late 80’s and early 90’s, what was then the Natural Gourmet Cooking School; Institute for Food and Health. This was a health related cooking school and education program. I had the absolute privilege of being in the classroom of Annemarie Colbin; founder of the school and author of several books on food and healing.

I went on to use this information in my social work practice. I worked in Substance Abuse and Addiction for over 30 years. I was able to help clients “clean up their diet”; including folks with HIV/AIDS, and folks in Recovery. I am completely convinced about the importance of eating well for health, happiness, and harmony,

I was exposed to the Macrobiotic dietary system, along with other food/nutrition systems and programs. I was able to take classes in which I learned the medicinal value of certain foods; and how important these foods are in the diet. For example, I learned how garlic is good for colds; ginger is good for nausea, and can be used in a compress. I was also informed that sugar and white flour are not good for you. This was not accepted food wisdom at the time, and pretty controversial.

My food journey continues to this day! I think about food constantly, and am always planning my next meal! I am a cook and a baker, so this feeds my soul!

ALL OF THIS IS TO SAY THAT I HAVE A SERIOUS INTEREST IN FOOD!

My favorite thing in the world to do is to go out and eat, and there is no place better to do this than NYC! Now that I am retired, I have the time to seek out fabulous restaurants. I love different ethnic cuisines, and am pretty adventurous!

One can eat really well in NY without spending a great deal of money. I have been doing this, and am having such a good time! This blog will share information and insights about restaurants and food trucks, that I have eaten at, and enjoyed, so that you can participate in your own food journey……

I am truly enjoying my CULINARY ADVENTURES IN NYC! SO CAN YOU!!!
